Health Information

1 day's walking = 8 days' health ( walkers' proverb ) !!

You don’t have to be good at sport to take part in our walking holidays, but you do need to be in reasonable physical condition to get the most out of them. The best way to reach the required level of fitness is to walk throughout the year whenever you get the opportunity. If this is not possible, you should nevertheless try to prepare yourself for a month before setting off on your walking holiday. For example, you should avoid lifts and walk up the stairs, go out shopping on foot - and so on. Seize every chance you can to go walking.

Once your holiday has started, try to avoid any careless or reckless behaviour which might lead to an accident. It is better to stick to marked paths. And every morning before you set out, check on the weather forecast, especially if you are up in the mountains.

Don't forget your first aid kit. It should contain:

  • Antiseptic
  • Elastoplast or other suitable sticking plasters
  • Eye lotion
  • Sun block
  • New Skin (for blisters)
  • Painkiller (e.g. paracetamol)
  • Bandages
  • Small scissors, needles, hair-remover…
  • Anti-friction cream NOK (very good for reducing risk of blisters)
  • For walking holidays outside Europe make sure you have the anti-diarrhoea medicines Imodium + Ercefuryl 200 and a box of Micropur (dosage per litre)

Homeopathic suggestions from LA PELERINE

  • If you suffer from muscular aches and pains take 3 granules of ARNICA 5 CH 3 times a day.
  • If you can feel tendonitis coming on, try taking 3 granules of RUTA GRAVEOLENS 5 CH 3 times a day.

Our insurances (assistance/repatriation and cancellation) are individual and optional. It is ESSENTIAL that you sign up for them at the time you book your holiday, and they only come into effect after you have paid the cost of the holiday in full. You can only sign up for our assistance/repatriation insurance if you live in France, in another EU country, in Switzerland or if you live in one of France’s overseas departments.

The cost of assistance/repatriation insurance is fixed at 1 % of the price of the holiday. It is based entirely on the price of the holiday.

If you do not sign up for our assistance/repatriation insurance we will ask you to sign a form freeing us from all liability.

The cost of cancellation insurance is 2,7 % of the cost of the holiday. It takes into account the price of the holiday and any extra charges (e.g. supplement for a single bedroom, supplement for one holidaymaker on their own, extra nights and special transport costs etc.)

If you cancel your holiday after it has been booked, and if you have not signed up for our cancellation insurance, we will retain our cancellation fees.

Our cancellation fees depend on the date of cancellation, as shown below:

1) more than 30 days before the planned departure date: 50 € administration charges per person.

2) between 30 days and 22 days before the departure date: 25% of the total coast of the holiday.

3) between 21 days and 15 days before the departure date: 50% of the total cost of the holiday.

4) between 14 days and 8 days before the departure date: 75% of the total cost of the holiday.

5) between 7 days and 2 days before the departure date: 90% of the total cost of the holiday.

6) less than 2 days before the departure date:  100% of the total cost of the holiday.

If the person with whom you intend to share a bedroom cancels their holiday, you will be billed for the extra charge applicable for a single bedroom.

For a cancellation before the holiday starts, contact La Pèlerine on +33 (0)4 71 74 47 40), and we will carry out the necessary procedures.

During the holiday, before you do anything else, contact AXA Assistance on +33 (0)1 55 92 19 58 (if you have signed up for our insurance).

If you have to be repatriated for health reasons during the holiday, you have the right to be reimbursed for all the costs of that part of the holiday which you have not completed, if you have signed up for our assistance/repatriation insurance. Under these circumstances you must contact Axa assistance and obtain their agreement before doing anything.

If you do not turn up at the beginning of the holiday or if you leave during the holiday without explanation, you will not be eligible for any reimbursement.

To get insurance covering the interruption of a holiday, you have to sign up for our two insurances (cancellation + assistance), the cost being 3.7 % of the total cost of the holiday.

A specimen copy of the insurance contract giving full details of what you are covered for, and procedures to follow, will be sent to you at the same time as your booking is confirmed, or on demand.

Administration fees (50 €) will be retained for any change to a booking which has already been made (e.g. changes in bedroom type, departure date, number of people etc).

If you would like to book extra nights at the beginning or the end of your holiday, this must be done at the time of booking and should be clearly specified on the booking form. Once your main holiday bookings have been confirmed, if you then decide you wish to book extra nights, it must be done directly through the hotel (or other accommodation) concerned, and paid for when they require it.

Administration fees (50 €) are retained by us for all booking changes for bookings which have already been made. (type ofbedroom, departure date, number of people…).

If you wish to book extra nights at the beginning or end of a holiday, this must be done at the time of booking and bespecified on the booking form. Once your booking has been completed, extra bookings must be made with the hotelconcerned and payment must be made to them at the time of booking.
